The modern Taekwondo is more focused on
sports, but if you peep into the traditional Taekwondo form, it clearly offers
a different picture that includes martial art, self-defense and sport. However,
I didn’t mean to say that today’s Taekwondo does not hold real combat – it does,
but somewhere or the other it is losing its real flavor.
One
Root three Branches
There are 3 major governing bodies of
Taekwondo:
These three bodies came up with different
controversies, but each of them has their own mission, vision and goal. However,
if you are planning to pursue a course in Taekwondo, you first need to visit
different schools to find out what they teach and how good their instructors
are.
Know
His Basic First
In order to check their performance, you
should first compare their Poomsae to find whose the best one was. Well, as a
new comer it will be difficult for you to judge the best one, but still you can
easily know which instructor or senior student did the right one.
For an example, let’s take the first
Poomsae ‘Taegeuk 1’, the first poomsae or kata of Taekwondo. Now, let me be
clear with you, as this form of Poomsae represents the World Taekwond and may
differ from International Taekwon-Do Federation.
Now, visit Youtube and search ‘Taegeuk 1’
and watch it. After you are done, compare the video stances, blocks, and
techniques with the instructor or student. This will definitely help you to
know their level of performance and skills.
Before getting enrolled to any Taekwondo
school, make sure to check the instructor’s Black Belt certificate and also
affiliation license. There are many fake instructors who claim to teach well,
but the case is not real.
Remember, a good instructor and his school’s
rate of success depends on the number of students he have and how much of them brought
laurels in the National, International and Olympic level. You should never
learn from an instructor who has stopped joining championship for the past 2
years, as it will be evident that – he is lazy, frightened or a money dragger
machine.
